Walking paths within Witham Valley Country Park are well signposted, and the terrain is varied from open country to dense woodland.

You can get different views of the cathedral from most of the rural spaces around the city and areas such Hartsholme Country Park and Whisby Nature Park also have guided walks; leading you through the beautiful scenery whilst learning about the local wildlife and history of the area.

Winding through North Kesteven’s wonderful countryside are over 130 miles of way marked ‘Stepping Out’ walks.

Stepping Out is a collection of walks through quiet, unspoilt countryside in the heart of rural Lincolnshire. North Kesteven is a district of picturesque villages and exquisite medieval churches, a living landscape steeped in history and rich in wildlife. Of the 17 walks in the Stepping Out collection, 6 are directly within the Witham Valley Country Park area.

Walk 1 is a beautiful woodland trail through Skellingthorpe Old Wood, owned by the Woodland Trust.

Walk 2 in Aubourn and Haddington discovers the ancient history surrounding the villages.

Walk 3 is a delightful circular walk from Bracebridge Heath and North Hykeham along the banks of the River Witham.

Walk 5 takes you from Thorpe on the Hill to enjoy the countryside and wildlife along green lanes and woodland paths.

Walk 17 takes in walks around historic Doddington Hall and gardens.

Walk 18 is a 34 acre deciduous woodland managed and owned by Hill Holt Wood.
